Mahmudullah didn’t have a fairytale ending to his T20I career as he would have expected. The 38-year-old got out for a score of just 8 in his final T20I.
Mahmudullah had announced that the third and final T20I against India in Hyderabad on October 12 (Saturday) would be the last time he would be featuring in a 20-over encounter for Bangladesh. However, he will continue to play the 50-over format.
Mahmudullah and Bangladesh had a horrid time during the final T20I. The middle-order batter witnessed Bangladesh getting whacked for 297/6 in their 20 overs, the most runs conceded by a full-member nation. The offspinner himself got hit for 26 runs in his two overs.
Bangladesh lost the third T20I by 133 runs and lost the series 0-3.
He ends his career with 141 T20Is, scoring 2444 runs at an average of 23.5 and a strike rate of 117.4. Mahmudullah also managed eight fifties in his 129 innings.
Like Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah was expected to announce his retirement after the T20 World Cup 2024. However, he was then named in the T20I squad for the series against India. In three games, the right-hander scored 50 runs at a strike rate of 100.
Mahmudullah got out to Mayank Yadav in the 15th over, hitting one straight into the hands of Riyan Parag at mid-off. Once he got out, India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, walked up to him and congratulated him on his career.
