Maiden Ranji Trophy century will forever be memorable: Yashasvi Jaiswal

Against Uttarakhand , the 20-year-old struck his maiden Ranji Trophy ton in only the second FC game of his career

Mumbai’s Yashasvi Jaiswal, who earlier this week struck his maiden first-class ton, asserted that he will ‘always remember’ the century and labeled getting to the three-figure mark a memorable moment in his career. Jaiswal made his first-class debut back in 2019, but the quarter-final clash against Uttarakhand was only the youngster’s second-ever Ranji Trophy encounter, having dropped out of the first XI post 2019.

Picked in the starting XI after three years, the 20-year-old took the opportunity with both hands and smashed a 150-ball 103 in the second innings to bat Uttarakhand out of the contest. Speaking in the aftermath of the clash, Jaiswal said that he was pleased to finally reap rewards for the hard work he’s been putting in.

“It matters a lot to me. I will always remember my first century, it will forever be memorable,” Jaiswal said, reported Sportstar.

“It’s good for my morale and mindset. All the hard work is paying off. It’s been almost four years since I played a Ranji match. Then came the Under-19 World Cup, and COVID came. Didn’t get a chance in the first three games.”

The youngster enjoyed a good second half of IPL 2022 after being dropped three games into the season, and he revealed that the key to his success was staying motivated.

“Even in the IPL, it was the same. I played the first three games and then I was out for the next seven. Did well on my comeback. All this time, I kept myself motivated. These experiences are a part of my learning. I believe in myself, I am confident about my abilities,” he said.

In the second innings of the quarter-final clash, Jaiswal strung together a 115-run stand with Prithvi Shaw, in which the skipper scored a staggering 72 himself. The 20-year-old revealed that Shaw’s ultra-aggressive approach helped him settle and take his time.

“He was scoring briskly so I could take my time,” he said.

Mumbai will take on Uttar Pradesh in the semi-final at the Just Cricket Academy Ground in Bengaluru.
