Maphaka Makes History As Proteas Bowl Out Australia For 1st Time In T20Is

Maphaka broke the 16-year-old record held by Wayne Parnell.

Kwena Maphaka became the youngest South African bowler to take a four-wicket haul as the Proteas bowled Australia out for the first time ever in their T20 international history. Both those feats were achieved in the first T20I of the three-match series at Darwin, Australia, on August 10 (Sunday).

After winning the toss and electing to field first, South Africa achieved the rare feat of bowling Australia out in T20Is. Before this game, the two teams had met each other in 25 matches, with the first one coming in 2006. But in all those attempts, the Proteas were unable to bowl the Aussies out.

Leading the attack for South Africa, Maphaka, aged 19 years and 124 days, became the youngest South African to take a four-wicket haul in international T20Is.

He broke the record of Wayne Parnell, who had claimed a four-wicket haul in T20Is at 19 years and 318 days at the Oval against the West Indies during the 2009 T20 World Cup. The record for the youngest bowler to take a four-wicket haul in T20Is remains with Noor Ahmad of Afghanistan.
