South African allrounder Aiden Markram on Thursday tested positive for COVID-19 which ruled him out of the first T20I against India in Delhi. The Proteas handed debut to youngster Tristan Stubbs as a replacement for Markram.
"Aiden was not available for selection as he tested positive for Covid, Stubbs comes in and it is a debut for him," South Africa captain Temba Bavuma said at the toss.
Markram, who was a part of the Indian Premier League 2022 with Sunrisers Hyderabad, cleared the first round of testing for the visiting team after they arrived on June 2.
The BCCI had earlier confirmed that there would be no bio-bubble starting with the five-match T20Is against South Africa from June 9-19.
