Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the remaining two ODIs against Zimbabwe and the three-match ODI series against New Zealand due to "minor ankle soreness".
Australia have named wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis as his replacement.
Marsh, however, will be available for the T20I tour of India next month. The decision was made keeping the upcoming T20 World Cup in mind.
The 30-year-old played a massive role in Australia’s maiden T20 World Cup triumph in the UAE last year and the team management would want him completely fit for the showpiece event, which will be played in Australia in October-November.
"It's obviously not ideal for Mitch. He's been playing some really good white-ball cricket recently and the way we set up our team the other day with bulk allrounders, he was obviously a big part of that," said Steven Smith.
"Disappointing for Mitch but there's some pretty important stuff coming up, he was a big part of the T20 World Cup campaign last year and sure there's big plans for him this year so the priority is to get him right for that."
Australia defeated Zimbabwe by five wickets in the first ODI and have taken a 1-0 lead in the series. The second encounter will be played at the Tony Ireland Stadium in Townsville on Wednesday (August 31).
