In what comes as a huge blow for India ahead of their semi-final clash against Australia, opening batter Pratika Rawal has been ruled out of the Women's World Cup 2025, according to a report on Cricbuzz. Rawal injured herself after she fell awkwardly near the boundary ropes during the match against Bangladesh on October 26 (Sunday) in Navi Mumbai.
She was immediately escorted off the field and neither returned to the field nor opened the batting in the match, which was eventually abandoned. The 25-year-old then underwent a scan, and according to its report, was due to consult an independent doctor.
Rawal is the second-highest run-getter in the tournament with 308 runs at 51.33, behind her opening partner Smriti Mandhana, who has amassed 365 runs. With her century against New Zealand, she became the joint-fastest to 1,000 ODI runs and was on course to become only the second player to aggregate 1,000 runs in a calendar year.
Rawal adds to the injury list for India, which also has wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh, who was rested for the Bangladesh game after sustaining a finger injury in the clash against New Zealand. As a result, Uma Chetry made her debut against Bangladesh.
India take on Australia in the second semi-final clash on October 30 (Thursday) in Navi Mumbai.
