India batter Shreyas Iyer was due to stake a claim for a place in the national side for the home series against the West Indies, but he has pulled out of the second unofficial Test against Australia A in Lucknow, citing personal reasons, according to a report on Cricbuzz. He has reportedly left for Mumbai. Iyer was named captain for the matches, but in his absence, wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel will lead the side.
In the first unofficial Test, Iyer could not get going, managing just eight runs in his only innings as the match ended in a draw. KL Rahul and Mohammed Siraj, who missed the first game, have been named in the XI for the second match.
Iyer, who had an excellent Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season where he led Punjab Kings (PBKS) to the final, was expected to be picked for the ongoing Asia Cup 2025, but was surprisingly left out.
In his 14 Tests, Iyer has scored 811 runs at 36.86, including one century and five fifties. However, he has not played in the longest format for India since February 2024.
