NEWSChennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed Matheesha Pathirana as a replacement for New Zealand pacer Adam Milne for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Milne suffered a hamstring injury in CSK’s first match against Kolkata Knight Riders and has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament.
His replacement Pathirana is a young 19-year-old medium-pacer from Sri Lanka who was part of Sri Lanka’s U19 World Cup squads in 2020 and 2022. He will join CSK at the price of INR 20 Lakh.
Pathirana played four matches and picked up seven wickets at an average of 27.28 in the U19 World Cup but what impressed the most about him is the economy rate of 6.16. His bowling action resembles that of Lasith Malinga and his ability to bowl yorkers makes him stand out.
Pathirana has already played one List A game and two T20 matches already and ahead of the 2021 season, CSK had roped in as a reserve player alongside the Sri Lanka mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana. Now both will be the part of the same dressing room.
