The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were going great guns in their chase of 220 against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 8 (Tuesday) at the Maharaja Yadvinder Singh Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh.
They were 59 without loss at the end of the powerplay and added two more on the first two balls of the Glenn Maxwell over to make it 61 without loss. This was CSK’s best ever start in IPL 2025, beating their previous best opening stand of just 14.
However, things went south from there as Rachin Ravindra showed his cards early, jumping out of the crease on the third ball and the bowler pushed it out, outfoxing the Kiwi, who was stumped out.
Right after that, CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad's season kept getting worse as he was out of yet another shot. Trying to pull a back of a length ball from Lockie Ferguson, Gaikwad handed an easy catch to Shaashank Singh, resulting in Chennai losing two quick wickets.
