India’s newest pace sensation, Mayank Yadav, is set to wait longer to get back into the Indian team. He has yet to recover from his back injury and has not been declared fully fit, even to represent Delhi, his state side, in the Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra, starting January 23rd onwards.
Mayank, who was supposed to get back into the Indian team after featuring in three T20Is against Bangladesh in late 2023, will now not be ready in time for the five-match T20I series against England, beginning January 22nd onwards.
"He's suffering from a back injury and is unlikely to be fit for the England series. He hasn't even been named amongst the probables for Delhi's first Ranji match of the second leg against Saurashtra from January 23," a BCCI source was quoted as saying to the Times of India.
Mayank burst on the scene with his fiery bowling spells in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). However, he could play only four games and got injured, rendering him unavailable for India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2024.
After returning to full fitness, he made his India debut against Bangladesh on October 6 at the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.
Since then, he has missed the first phase of the Ranji Trophy, the entire Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) and Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT), and the entire Indian domestic season of 2024-25.
