Current Kolkata Knight Riders coach Brendon McCullum is among the favorites become England's next Test head coach, according to reports in English news dailies.
England and Wales Cricket Board had last week invited applications for the role after reverting back to their previous split coaching from 2016. The head coach has been vacant since the ouster of Chris Silverwood and his support staff following England's Ashes debacle earlier this year.
Paul Collingwood was England's interim coach for their tour of West Indies where they lost the Test series 1-0.
Recently, Ben Stokes was appointed as the Test captain after Joe Root stepped down from his role after the West Indies series.
Former England batter Robert Key, who was appointed managing director the men's team, is leading the interview process as he revealed that he has been seeking the opinion of England's white-ball captain Eoin Morgan.
"I've spoken to Eoin about red-ball cricket as well. I asked his opinion. You want good people with good brains around you to work stuff out, so Eoin Morgan is someone I would speak to about so many different things," Key said in his first press conference at the Lord's.
After retiring from white-ball cricket after leading New Zealand to their maiden World Cup final in 2015, McCullum bowed out of international cricket with a 79-ball 145 in a 2016 Test against Australia. He has been KKR's head coach for the last three seasons.
For the white-ball role, Collingwood is among the applicants while Gary Kirsten, Simon Katich and Graham Ford have also applied for the Test head coach job.
