The relationship between Dwayne Bravo and the Knight Riders franchise in cricket seems to be carrying on at its best, as the West Indian legend was handed another big role, having previously replaced Gautam Gambhir as mentor of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League.
The 41-year-old, on June 19 (Thursday), was named the head coach of the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR), a franchise for which he played most of his T20 cricket back home in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). He replaced Phil Simmons, who is now the head coach of the Bangladesh national senior men's team.
A sister franchise of the KKR, TKR are one of the most successful teams in the CPL, having won four titles and being runners-up once, making it to the finals on five occasions out of 13 seasons.
Bravo himself has been part of all five seasons where TKR made it to the final, leading them to three victories in 2015, 2017, 2018 and being part of one win in 2020 and a final in the 2023 season.
Reacting to the appointment, Bravo in a social media post said, "It's an honor to be given the opportunity to be Head Coach of TKR, a team that's very close to my heart. I would like to personally thank Coach Phil Simmons for his time and commitment over the last few years, and now I look forward to this new challenge for me and my staff."
Bravo, who was an active player till last season, turning out for the TKR itself, played a total of 107 matches in the league, 89 of which were for TKR and 18 for the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (SKNP).
In his coaching career, which began after his retirement from IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2022, Bravos served as bowling consultant for two seasons, i.e. 2023 and 2024 for his former team, before becoming mentor of KKR in 2025. He also served as head coach for the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in ILT20 and bowling consultant for the Afghanistan national team in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
CPL 2025 will begin on August 14 with the SKNP taking on Antigua and Barbuda Falcons (ABF) at Warner Park in Basseterre, St Kitts.
