MI motivated to end IPL 2022 on 'bit of a roll': Daniel Sams

The five-time champions will look to make it three wins in three as they prepare to take on KKR next

Since Daniel Sams got plundered for 35 runs of an over by Pat Cummins, he has picked up six wickets from four matches, including defending eight runs off the final over in the previous match against Gujarat Titans (GT).

As Mumbai Indians (MI) prepare to take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) again in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Sams says that the motivation in the camp is to finish the tournament on 'bit of a roll.'

"Obviously we're not going to be able to make the playoffs, but how we set up the rest of the tournament for us is, we've got a little 'mini IPL'," Sams said on the eve of their game against KKR.

"So the last six games -- we've played two of them already -- we're just kind of judging ourselves on that. Yes, this year we can't make the playoffs but we can still build on a lot of things for the coming season.

"Motivation for the guys is we want to win the rest of our games. That's actually what's motivating us. We want to finish this IPL on a bit of a roll. We see our team as a really good team, and we want to prove that over the next coming days."

Sams also reveals that a chat with the support chat helped him overcome being plundered by Cummins. "That's where it came about that I wasn't quite bowling to my strengths. I was bowling my slower balls but I was bowling up rather than into the pitch.

"Through the conversations with, there was MJ (Mahela Jayawardene), Bondy (Shane Bond), Jasprit (Bunmrah) and a few others, I was able to realise why those things were happening and then rectify them in training. Work on a couple of things and then be able to stay calm," he signed off.

Mumbai are currently at the bottom of the IPL 2022 table, having picked up just four points from 10 games. A win over KKR, who are placed just two spots above them, would result in three continuous wins for the five-time champions.
