Mumbai Indians (MI) haven’t won the Indian Premier League (IPL) in five seasons, with their last trophy coming in 2020. It's been five years, and the team with five trophies wouldn’t want to wait any longer. They will be looking left, right and centre and in every direction possible to recruit players that can get them the elusive trophy.
In that search, the MI scouts could also turn towards Major League Cricket (MLC), where their sister franchise, MI New York (MINY), managed to somehow drag themselves to the playoffs.
Here are three possible picks from MINY that MI could sign during the IPL 2026 mini auction.
The New Zealand all-rounder has somewhat been a beacon of hope for the MI New York franchise, picking four wickets with his off-spin while scoring 197 runs at an average of 39.70 and a strike rate of 145. He packs a solid all-round punch and could be a great cover for Mitchell Santner.
The 34-year-old will bring in hands-on experience of 177 T20s. He has 3278 runs and 83 wickets to his name, six of which came for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2023.
Afghan pacer Naveen ul Haq, who plays T20 cricket around the world, has done well for MINY, picking up eight wickets in five matches that he has played for the franchise. He looks in good touch, and his prior experience of playing in the IPL would only aid in him getting picked by the Mumbai brigade.
The 25-year-old has featured in 221 T20s as of now, picking up 267 wickets at a brilliant average of 24.26. He has 25 wickets in 18 matches for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL.
South Africa’s all-round option is like-for-like as far as Santner is concerned. A left-arm spinner who can swing the willow, Linde, till July 10th, had featured in only three games for the side. But in those three matches, he picked up two wickets, showing promise and potential to attract bidders.
The South African has otherwise had a great T20 career, scoring 2304 runs at an average of 19.69 with four fifties in his kitty and picking up 188 wickets in 198 innings that he bowled in.
