The England cricket team, which is already in a miserable mood after allowing Australia to chase down 352 in their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 opener, were given yet another headache as one of their in-form pacers in Pakistani conditions, Brydon Carse, was ruled out of the tournament on February 24 (Monday).
Rehan Ahmed, a leg-spinner, was approved by the ICC as his replacement and will fly in from England ahead of the team's next game, which is against Afghanistan on February 26 (Wednesday).
The International Cricket Council in a press release said, “The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 has approved Rehan Ahmed as a replacement for Brydon Carse in the England squad.”
Carse, who was injured during the match against Australia, where he was also the most expensive bowler, went for 69 in just seven overs and picked up just one wicket.
England did not need pacers as they already have Gus Atkinson and Saqib Mahmood in the reserve. After the Afghanistan game, they will have to play their final group game against South Africa on March 1 in Karachi.
