Mitchell Marsh returns to bowling after six months

The big all-rounder hadn’t bowled in a competitive match since tearing his hamstring during the IPL 2024

Mitchell Marsh returned to bowling in the One-Day Internationals (ODIs) for the first time since the final of last year’s World Cup in India.

The big all-rounder hadn’t bowled in a competitive match since tearing his hamstring during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

In the absence of injured Cameron Green, the Australian captain decided to roll his arm over in the fourth ODI against England at Lord’s on September 27 (Friday) and even managed to pick up a wicket in his second over.

Marsh dismissed Will Jacks who went hard at an away swinging delivery and ended up hitting it to Marnus Labuschagne at backward point.

It had been almost six months, and with the number of all-rounders Australia have in their white-ball set-ups, the Men in Yellow didn’t really need his services in the bowling department.

Australia, however, might need his bowling during the mega five-match Test series against India, starting on November 22. The extent of Green’s injury is still unknown and if he fails to recover on time, Marsh will remain the only fast-bowling all-rounder in the Australian team.
