Known for his deadly bowling, especially in the powerplay, left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein achieved something that only Sunil Narine has in T20s. Hosein slammed his maiden T20 fifty in the match against MI New York in the Major League Cricket (MLC) Challenger in Dallas on July 11 (Friday).
Coming in at six, Hosein smashed an unbeaten 55 off just 32 deliveries and put on an unbeaten stand of 81 off 45 with Donovan Ferreira (32*) to help Texas Super Kings (TSK) to a competitive 166/5. However, that was not enough as Nicholas Pooran (52*) and Kieron Pollard (47*) took MINY home.
During the course of the match, Hosein became only the second spinner from the Caribbean to achieve the double of 1,000 runs and 200 wickets in T20s. Narine is the only other spinner from the West Indies to achieve this.
Hosein has 1,002 runs at a strike rate of 110.59, and with the ball, he has picked up 203 wickets at an economy rate of under seven. Narine, on the other hand, has picked up 589 wickets and with the bat, he has struck 4,649 runs. Overall, only seven players from the Caribbean have achieved this double. They are: Pollard, Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo, Narine, Jason Holder, Carlos Brathwaite and now Hosein.
With this win, MINY have qualified for the MLC 2025 final, where they will take on Washington Freedom on July 13 (Sunday) in Dallas.
