For the first time in a decade, Bangladesh batter Mohammad Ashraful will make a return to the national team dressing room, this time as a batting coach. Ashraful, once Bangladesh’s biggest teen prodigy, will be the batting coach for the side's upcoming series against Ireland.
Ashraful will replace Mohammad Salahuddin as batting coach in his return to the dressing room for the first time since 2014, when he was banned for match-fixing issues in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Since then, the batter has completed his coaching course to return to the national team in a new role.
"[Mohammad] Ashraful has the experience - that's a given. He has already completed the coaching courses, and mainly his experience was the key for us in this role," Bangladesh’s Team Director Abdur Razzak said, reported Cricbuzz.
"Salahuddin bhai is the senior assistant coach. There wasn't any discussion about anyone failing to do their job or anything like that. And no one has been sacked from their post," he added.
"My role will be like any other team director's role. I will observe, keep an eye on things, and if anyone needs any help, I'll provide it. If they need anything, I'll try to help," he added.
Bangladesh are confirmed to play Ireland in a two-match Test series in November alongside three T20Is.
