Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan has refused to sign the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) central contract after he was demoted to Category B, according to a report on PTI. PCB had scrapped the Category A, which previously had senior players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi and also Rizwan.
However, Rizwan is believed to have insisted that Category A be reinstated and is the only player, from a list of 30, who has not signed a contract. Rizwan, who was recently sacked as Pakistan ODI skipper, has also demanded that the captains be given time and authority to execute their plans without any outside interference.
The 33-year-old has not played T20Is for Pakistan since December last year. Under his leadership, Pakistan failed to win a single game in the Champions Trophy earlier this year, which they hosted. That, coupled with a few poor performances, saw Shaheen Afridi take over as the new ODI skipper.
As a result, Pakistan have different captains across formats. Shan Masood leads the Test side, while Salman Agha is the T20I skipper.
