Former Pakistan batter and men's chief selector Mohammad Wasim has been appointed as Pakistan Women’s head coach for the upcoming Asia Cup, which will be played in Dambulla from July 19 to 28.
Meanwhile, former Pakistan paceman Junaid Khan and spinner Abdur Rehman will serve as an assistant coach and spin-bowling coach respectively. The appointments have been made only for the Asia Cup.
Wasim, who played 18 Tests and 25 ODIs for Pakistan, has some coaching experience. The 46-year-old was the head coach of Northern, a team that existed for four years when the Pakistan Cricket Board revamped the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. He was also the chief selector during Ramiz Raja’s tenure as the PCB Chairman.
Pakistan will play India in their first encounter on July 19. The two teams are part of Group A, which also consists of Nepal and UAE. Meanwhile, hosts Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Thailand form Group B. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals, to be played on July 26. The final will be played on July 28.
