Mohammed Shami’s Indian Premier League (IPL) keeps getting worse, and his worst game till now came against the Punjab Kings on April 12 (Saturday) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Bowling for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Shami went for 75 runs in a spell of fours, breaking the previous record held by Mohit Sharma of the Gujarat Titans (GT), who had gone for 73 runs against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Shami, who was hit for 14 runs in the first over and 23 in his second, went for only 11 runs in his third over. However, the game-changing over was the final of the Punjab innings as Marcus Stoinis hit Shami for four sixes in a row and took 27 runs from that over.
As a result of that 27-run over, Shami became the unfortunate owner of the record-most expensive spell in the IPL by an Indian bowler.
In the IPL 2025 so far, Shami has gone for 233 runs in 21 overs in six innings at an economy rate of 11.1.
