Shami Goes Past Bhuvneshwar, Malinga, Dinda To Create IPL Record

Mohammed Shami becomes the first bowler in IPL history to take a wicket on the first ball of the innings four times

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) paceman Mohammed Shami dismissed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener Shaik Rasheed on the first delivery of Match 43 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on April 25 (Friday).

As a result, Shami became the first bowler in IPL history to take a wicket on the first ball of the innings four times. Umesh Yadav, Trent Boult, Praveen Kumar, Lasith Malinga, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ashok Dinda have done it three times.

Shami, who was dropped for the last match against Mumbai Indians (MI), made an impact on the very first delivery against CSK.

It was a classic Shami delivery, curling in before landing on the seam and moving away. Rasheed went for a punch, got a big outside edge, and the ball flew to Abhishek Sharma, who took a sharp catch to his right at first slip.

Shami hasn’t been in great form in the IPL 2025. Before tonight, the right-arm seamer had managed only five wickets in seven games at an average of 52.2 and an economy rate of 10.9.
