Monty Desai not offered an extension as Nepal’s Head coach as contract comes to an end
Mumbai-born Desai worked with national teams like Afghanistan and West Indies in the past and took over the role of Nepal’s head coach after Manoj Prabhakar, who vacated the post in December 2022
Cricket Association of Nepal and Head Coach Monty Desai have mutually agreed to part ways as the latter’s two-year contract comes to an end. The board, in a statement, stated that they had decided not to offer him a contract extension.
"Head coach of the men's national cricket team Shri Mrugang Jagdish Desai 'Monty Desai' was appointed with a tenure of two-year and the agreement has come to an end which we all are well aware of," CAN spokesperson Chhumbi Lama said in a release.
"Also, it is hereby informed that the Cricket Association of Nepal has decided not to renew the contract. It was not a sudden decision. A board meeting held earlier had decided not to offer him a contract extension. There is no reason to think negatively of him, the decision was more of a mutual agreement."

Mumbai-born Desai worked with national teams like Afghanistan and West Indies in the past and took over the role of Nepal’s head coach after Manoj Prabhakar, who vacated the post in December 2022 following a four-month stint. Nepal made it to the T20 World Cup in 2024, but Desai’s methods became very popular for the way he managed the dressing room despite the previous head coaches finding it difficult to handle.
