More Misery For Pakistan As Team Punished In Wake Of Embarrassing Loss

Skipper Mohammad Rizwan pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the sanction

On the back of an abject surrender in the second ODI against New Zealand in Hamilton, where all the top five batters got dismissed for single digits, Pakistan lost the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. The 84-run loss at Seddon Park was Pakistan’s sixth loss of the ongoing white-ball tour in seven games.

Now, to add insult to injury, the Men in Green have been penalised for maintaining a slow over-rate.

Pakistan were found to be one over short of the target after the time allowances were taken into consideration. Thereby, they have been fined five percent of their match fee. Skipper Mohammad Rizwan pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the sanction, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.

Incidentally, this is the second time in as many ODIs Pakistan have been fined for a slow over-rate. They were penalised in the wake of the first ODI too, which they lost by 73 runs.

The third and final ODI of the series, a dead rubber, will be played on April 5 (Saturday) at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.
