MS Dhoni Doesn't Need To Be There Next Year At CSK: Adam Gilchrist

The former Australian player has backed Ruturaj Gaikwad to be CSK's marquee retention next year

Former Australia wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist wants Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to let go of MS Dhoni ahead of the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Dhoni, who is almost 44 years old, has scored 140 runs in nine innings at an average of 28 and a strike rate of 142.85, which isn’t too bad, but CSK are languishing at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table. Gilchrist wants CSK to move on and focus on the future.

“MS, well, he'll know what he wants to do. But I'm saying for the future — it's going to cost me this, I know — but perhaps he doesn't need to be there next year. I love you, MS. You are a champion, an icon,” Gilchrist said on Cricbuzz.

Gilchrist backed Ruturaj Gaikwad as a marquee retention despite him being ruled out of the IPL 2025 because of an elbow injury.

Apart from Gaikwad, the Australian feels CSK should also retain Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Shivam Dube, Ayush Mhatre, Dewald Brevis, and some of the other players. He also wants CSK to release Devon Conway.
