MS Dhoni, Ishan Kishan And....: Gujarat Titans' WK From Jharkhand Hits Century

For a 20-year-old, he showed great maturity, forming three crucial partnerships to not only get to his century but take the team to a respectable total

Jharkhand seem to be developing into a state where players are following the footsteps of the legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Become a wicketkeeper-batter, score enough, become captain of the side and then hit runs when they matter the most.

After Ishan Kishan, another Jharkhand wicketkeeper-batter, showed that he was here to set a benchmark. Kumar Kushagra, who represents Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), slammed a brilliant, ‘against the run of play’ century against Hyderabad in the Buchi Babu Trophy 2025.

As Jharkhand captain, after winning the toss on August 22 (Friday), Kushagra opted to bat first at the IC Gurunanak Ground in Chennai. While wickets fell at regular intervals, Kushagra continued to farm strike at one end and stitched important partnerships.

As a true captain, he led from the front and added 72 for the fourth wicket with Kumar Suraj and 58 for the fifth wicket with Robin Minz. After adding 45 with Tanish Choubey for the eighth wicket, Kushagra eventually got out to Rohith Rayudu.

In his innings of 103 off 131 balls, the 20-year-old hit five fours and four sixes to take his team to a respectable total of 283 in the first innings.
