MS Dhoni Set To Own ‘Captain Cool’ Title?

His application to trademark the phrase Captain Cool has been accepted

The Trademark Registry of India has accepted MS Dhoni’s application to trademark the phrase Captain Cool, a nickname he is fondly known by among fans, reported ESPNcricinfo on June 30 (Monday).

“The trademark will be granted if no objection or opposition is raised by any third party within 120 days of its acceptance, which was on June 16, 2025,” Shashank Kishore wrote in his report for ESPNcricinfo.

"The trademark was filed under categories related to sports training, coaching, and the provision of sports training facilities and services."

After Dhoni submitted the application, he was informed that Prabha Skill Sports (OPC) Private Limited had already filed for the trademark. In response, Dhoni filed a rectification petition.

He stated: "This is a case of bad faith registration on the part of the company, aimed at deceiving the public and unlawfully enriching themselves by trading on the name of a well-known individual."

Dhoni, who was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame earlier this month, recently featured in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
