With a six-wicket defeat against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Delhi on May 20 (Tuesday), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered their 10th defeat of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
This is the second time CSK have lost 10 games in a season, having done the same in 2022 as well. CSK have one more game remaining in the IPL 2025, and never ever have they lost more than 10 games in a single edition.
The Super Kings are currently at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table, and have one more game remaining. To avoid the wooden spoon, CSK will have to beat Gujarat Titans (GT) by a big margin in their last fixture of the season on May 25.
RR’s NRR is -0.549, while CSK’s NRR is -1.030. There’s a high possibility that CSK will finish at the bottom of the points table for the first time in IPL history.
Chasing a target of 188, Yashasvi Jaiswal (36 off 19) and Vaibhav Suryavanshi (57 off 33) got RR off to a phenomenal start, while skipper Sanju Samson played a steady knock of 41 off 31.
Dhruv Jurel (31* off 12) and Shimron Hetmyer (12* off 5), who have struggled to finish games this entire season, made no mistake this time around and finished the job with almost three overs to spare.
This was only the second time RR successfully chased down a target in the IPL 2025. Rajasthan have lost eight of their 10 encounters while chasing in the IPL 2025 - the joint-most in a season alongside Pune Warriors.
