Out of nowhere, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) sprung a surprise, announcing the 22-year-old Dewald Brevis as a replacement for injured Gurjapneet Singh. The young South African instantly became a crucial cog in the five-time IPL champions’ line-up, smashing 225 runs at a strike rate of 180.
Barring one failure (0 vs RCB), Brevis played a crucial role in every other game, smashing bowlers for fun, with 13 fours and 17 sixes, with two half-centuries in the tournament. Looking back at his stint with CSK, Brevis opened up on his time in the Yellow Army.
“I’ll always remember like, whenever I tell people it’s amazing. I had amazing times, my four years [in IPL]. It was incredible,” Brevis told AB de Villiers on his YouTube channel.
Brevis also opened up on his relationship with MS Dhoni, pointing out at the 44-year-old’s humbleness.
“And I had to go through all of the journey like it’s been beautiful, and the one thing that I can just say from MS [Dhoni] is his humbleness and who he is as a person that stood out for me. How he is basically off the field, the time he has for players, for people," Brevis added.
The 22-year-old also narrated the story of how Dhoni’s ‘room door’ is always open, and how he got to spend a lot of time with the veteran.
"His room door is always open. If he’s sleeping, that’s the only time it’s closed. And I found myself a few times in his room just sitting there with whatever he’s busy like chatting to him about his hobbies, watching cricket, and yeah, that’s just amazing and just to see how what he does like off the field and like everyone knows what he does on the field and at training and yeah just it’s very special,” he concluded.
