Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) have appointed the 45-year-old Omkar Salvi as the head coach of the men’s setup ahead of the new domestic season. Amol Muzumdar, who was part of the successful campaign in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) did not put his name for a new contract.
Salvi has spent a long time as an assistant bowling coach for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and also was part of the Mumbai setup as a bowling coach. Omkar, the elder brother of Aavishkar represented Railways during his time in the domestic setup and later built himself a reputation as a good coach.
“Omkar has the experience and the expertise, is updated with the nuances in coaching techniques and psyche of modern-day cricket, so he was our unanimous choice to take Mumbai cricket forward,” Lalchand Rajput, the Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) chief, told Sportstar on Monday.
Sameer Dighe, who also put his name in the mix for the position. However, according to Sportstar, Dighe’s appointed as the Academy Head of MCA’s Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy at Bandra-Kurla Complex. Dinesh Lad, Rohit Sharma's coach has also been appointed as the U-19 head coach.
