After just 82 runs @ 13.67 in the first six innings, Mumbai Indians (MI) opener Rohit Sharma finally smashed his first half-century of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
The 37-year-old hardly did anything substantial in the first six matches but returned to his absolute best against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium on April 20 (Sunday).
Chasing a below-par target of 177 on a superb batting surface, Rohit announced his arrival with a stunning six off Jamie Overton - a trademark pull for a six over backward square leg.
The right-hander then whacked Khaleel Ahmed for two fours and a six in the next over. In the process, Rohit also broke Chris Gayle’s record of most T20 sixes in a country.
Rohit crossed the 30-run mark for the first time this season, and then went on to complete his fifty off 33 deliveries.
This was Rohit’s ninth 50-plus score against CSK - the joint-most for a batter against the Super Kings in the IPL alongside Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli and David Warner.
