Mumbai Cricket Association's Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC), consisting of Jatin Paranjpe (chairman), Nilesh Kulkarni, and Vinod Kambli, decided to appoint domestic stalwart Amol Muzumdar as the coach for the upcoming season. CIC interviewed Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Wadim Jaffer, Sairaj Bahutule, Sulakshan Kulkarni, Pradeep Sunderram, Nandan Phadnis, Umesh Patwal, and Vinod Raghvan besides Muzumdar and finalized the former middle-order batter for the role.
Muzumdar was a domestic stalwart for Mumbai and later for Assam, and has been actively involved in coaching lately. Muzumdar, who has played 171 first-class games and scored over 11,000 runs in his career, is currently the batting coach of Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.
He has earlier coached the South African national team during their 2019 tour of India apart from coaching the Netherlands on the associates' circuit.
