England all-rounder Will Jacks, who plays for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL), played a special knock of 72 in just 41 deliveries in the final of The Hundred as his team, Oval Invincibles, won The Hundred Trophy for the third time in a row.
Batting first, the Invincibles scored 168/5 in 100 deliveries with the help of Jacks' 72 and Jordan Cox’s 40 off 28. In reply, Trent Rockets could only score 142/8 as the Invincibles won the final by 26 runs. Nathan Sowter, the leg-spinner, bowled a brilliant spell of 3/25 for the Invincibles as they continued their domination of the 100-ball format.
The Invincibles had entered the final as favourites and played like that as well, with Jacks leading the charge as the opener. He was quick to get off the blocks and didn’t let Tawanda Muyeye’s wicket hamper the run flow. He smashed as many as seven fours and four sixes in his stay on the crease, and along with Cox and Sam Curran, helped the Invincibles to an above-par total despite the team scoring only 25 runs in the last 20 deliveries.
While bowling, Saqib Mahmood and Sam Curran bowled well to give only 32 runs in the powerplay. After that, the Invincibles employed their leg-spinners Sowter and Adam Zampa, who together bowled 40 deliveries and gave only 46 runs while dismissing four Rockets batters. Sowter, especially, was brilliant as he dismissed the top three batters - Tom Banton, Joe Root and Rehan Ahmed.
Marcus Stoinis played a valiant knock of 64 off just 38 deliveries, but it wasn’t enough as the Invincibles continued their dream run under skipper Sam Billings and coach Tom Moody.
