Mumbai Indians Hand Debut To Former RCB Star As Chahal Returns For Punjab
Chahal had missed each of PBKS’ last three matches due to a wrist injury
Mumbai Indians (MI) continue to hand debuts to overseas stars in the playoffs of the ongoing 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) as England speedster Reece Topley has been drafted into the XI for the Qualifier 2 clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Ahmedabad. Topley comes into the XI in place of the injured Richard Gleeson, who himself debuted for the franchise against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Eliminator following an injury to incumbent Deepak Chahar.
Topley for Gleeson is the only change in the MI starting XI. The 31-year-old, who was bought for INR 75 lakh at the mega auction, has made five appearances in the IPL to date, with each of the five appearances coming for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Incidentally, it was against MI that Topley made his IPL debut, back in IPL 2023.
Meanwhile, in what comes as a significant boost for Punjab, Yuzvendra Chahal returns to the starting XI. Chahal had missed each of PBKS’ last three matches due to a wrist injury, but he’s back, and he replaces left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar.
Punjab Kings are eyeing to reach their second-ever IPL final, and their first in 11 years. They were handed a heavy eight-wicket defeat by RCB in Qualifier 1 in Mullanpur.
