Ground details
More than 67% of the wickets at the DY Patil Stadium have been picked by the fast bowlers this season, giving away 8.9 runs per over and striking every 29.8 runs, 20.1 balls apart. The spinners, on the other hand, are slowly getting into the contest given the wear and tear of the pitch, conceding at 7.6 an over and have struck every 22.2 deliveries, 28.1 runs apart.
Barring a significant difference in the economy rates, the other aspects have been more or less similar. The high percentage of wickets picked up by the pacers could boil down to the fact that they have bowled 65% of the overs at this venue.
Captain
Having missed the first couple of games, Suryakumar Yadav has made up for his absence with 200 runs from his four innings at a strike-rate of 153.84, which includes a couple of fifties. Surya has been MI’s highest scorer in the IPL since 2020, notching up 997 runs at 34.28 and has as many as eight fifties to show for his effort from 33 innings in this period. Given Surya’s current form, he could be an ideal candidate to lead your side.
Our Criclytics Player projector predicts Suryakumar could score 39-59 runs in this match
X-Factors
Despite not being considered for the initial stages of the tournament, Jaydev Unadkat has been in decent form with the ball and doubles up as a powerful hitter down the order, helping his side to some vital runs at the fag end of the innings. He has picked up at least one wicket in every match he has played and with the bat, he has struck 13*, 12 and 14 in quick time batting low down. With the ball – his primary role – he has scalped four wickets at a strike-rate of 18 – which are not great numbers but certainly encouraging compared to other bowlers.
Our Criclytics Player projector predicts Unadkat could pick up 2-3 wickets in this match
Shivam Dube returns to the DY Patil Stadium – a venue where a struck an unbeaten 46-ball 95 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the last time he played here. He has two fifties in his last five innings and even though he has not bowled much this season, he could be one of the candidates to go through a couple of quiet overs in the middle. However, the southpaw has been given the role of batting in the top four and smashing it to all parts, something he has done efficiently more often than not this season.
Our Criclytics Player projector predicts Dube could score 18-28 runs and pick up 0-1 wickets in this match
After going wicketless in the first match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Sri Lanka spinner Maheesh Theekshana has picked up six wickets in the next two matches including 4 for 33 against RCB at DY Patil. Overall, his six wickets this season have come at an average of 14.66, 12 deliveries apart. Batters are still finding it hard to pick the mystery spinner and could once again be a handful against a struggling MI unit.
Our Criclytics Player projector predicts Theekshana could pick up 2-3 wickets in this match.
