Mumbai Indians' X-Factor Bowler Ruled Out Of IPL 2025 With Injury

He has been replaced by a leg-spinner from Punjab

In what comes as a blow to Mumbai Indians (MI) heading into the final few games of the IPL 2025 group stages, young spinner Vignesh Puthur has been ruled out of the tournament with injury.

Puthur, 24, had not played a single T20 prior to IPL 2025, but he shocked the world by claiming a sensational three-fer on debut against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk, where he was unearthed out of the blue by the five-time IPL champions. The left-arm wrist-spinner played four more games after that and took three more wickets, providing crucial, partnership-breaking strikes.

But Puthur will take no further part in IPL 2025. Mumbai Indians have signed Punjab leg-spinner Raghu Sharma as Puthur’s replacement. He joins MI at the base price of INR 30 lakhs from the RAPP list.

After a slow start, MI have won five consecutive games in IPL 2025. Victory tonight against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur will take them to the top of the table, and put them in pole position to qualify in the top two.
