Mumbai name Meredith as Jhye Richardson’s replacement

Richardson injured his hamstring, which ruled him out of this year’s competition

Mumbai Indians, on Thursday (April 6) have named the Australian pacer Riley Meredith as a replacement for the injured Jhye Richardson. Richardson was ruled out of the competition earlier with a hamstring injury, leaving Mumbai’s pace-bowling reserves in doldrum.

"Richardson is suffering from a hamstring injury and is ruled out of the 16th edition of the IPL. Meredith joined MI for Rs 1.5 crore," stated an IPL media release.

Meredith has prior IPL experience, playing for the Mumbai Indians last season, with eight wickets in five encounters, that includes a three-wicket haul. Previously, the pacer has also played for Punjab Kings.

Mumbai have signed him at INR 1.5 crore, giving captain Rohit Sharma more bowling options, given the number of injuries in the dressing room.
