Former Mumbai captain and selector Milind Rege has passed away at the age of 76 due to a heart attack. Rege, an odd-spinner, picked up 126 wickets in 52 first-class matches between 1966-67 and 1977-78. He also hit 1,532 runs.
Once he called time on his playing career, he donned various hats, including that of a selector and chief selector of the Mumbai side, in separate stints. He was also one of the Mumbai selectors when Sachin Tendulkar was added to the Ranji Trophy squad in 1988.
Both Mumbai and Vidarbha observed a minute's silence before the start of the third day's play of the Ranji Trophy semi-final as a tribute to Rege. The Mumbai players also wore black armbands as a mark of respect for Rege.
Since 2020, Rege was an advisor at the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).
