Mushtaq Ahmed appointed as Bangladesh's spin bowling coach

Ahmed replaces Rangana Herath at the position

Pakistani leg spinner and ex-spin bowling coach of England, Mushtaq Ahmed has been appointed as Bangladesh’s new spin bowling coach.

Ahmed will be replacing Rangana Herath in this role, who left the job last year after the first Test against New Zealand. Ahmed will join the Bangladeshi squad ahead of their T20 series against Zimbabwe.

Mushtaq, who has taken 185 Test and 161 ODI wickets for Pakistan has also been Pakistan’s spin consultant between 2014 and 2016. Speaking on his appointment, he was quite elated and excited about the opportunities that beckon him in Bangladesh cricket.

“It is a great honour for me to be a part of the Bangladesh cricket team as a spin bowling coach. I am looking forward to the role and want to pass my experience to the players because they are very coachable and I always believe that they are one of the most dangerous teams around.”

“They can beat anyone because they have the capability, the resources and the talent. I will try to instil that belief into them. I am very excited at the opportunity to work with the team,” said the Bangladesh Cricket Board press release that carried his statement.

Ahmed has been contracted as the new spin bowling coach until the end of the upcoming T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies.
