Mustafizur named in Bangladesh's Test squad for WI tour
The left-arm pacer had stayed away from red-ball cricket since playing against the Windies last year
Bangladesh Cricket Board has on Sunday named Mustafizur Rahman in their Test squad for the tour of West Indies next month, ending speculation surrounding the left-armer's red-ball future.
Mustafizur has not played Test cricket since the home series against West Indies in February, 2021. He had opted for BCB's white-ball contracts earlier this year as he cited bubble fatigue as one of the reasons for his choices.
Bangladesh will play two Tests, three ODIs and as many T20Is starting with opening Test at Antigua from June 16-20.
"He (Mustafizur) informed us that he is ready to play Test cricket. Naturally his inclusion will strengthen our Test squad considering he is an experienced campaigner," Chief selector Minhajul Abedin told Cricbuzz.
Senior batter Mushfiqur Rahim will miss the series in order to make a Hajj pilgrimage. The likes of Anamul Haque, Mohammad Saifuddin and Nural Hasan made a return to the white-ball side.
Lead pacer Taskin Ahmed has been named in the ODI squad as the medical staff will decide on his inclusion for the T20Is based on fitness tests.
Bangladesh will face West Indies in two Tests at Antigua and St. Lucia from June 16-28 which will be followed by three T20Is on July 2,3 and 7. They will conclude the tour with three ODIs on July 10, 13 and 16.
