In the second Test between India and South Africa in Guwahati, Senuran Muthusamy marked a personal landmark with a maiden Test century. The South African spin bowling all-rounder struck 109, featuring 10 boundaries and two sixes, as his side piled up 489 in the first innings and seized control of the match.
“It was a really special moment in front of this full house. I’m just glad that I could contribute to the team and really put some runs on the board in the first innings, which is always important,” Muthusamy said after the day’s play, as quoted by The Indian Express.
“[The plan] was just to build partnerships and to really try and extend the innings and then score runs in between. I think Scholesy [Verreynne] did really well today and Marco was special. And the other guys chipped in as well, which was awesome,” he added.
South Africa had earlier resumed with the score at 247/6, and with Muthusamy anchoring the tail, rapidly extended their lead to near 500. His knock frustrated the Indian attack, ensuring the visitors set a commanding position.
With the knock, South Africa now hold the upper hand in the match, and India will need to respond strongly with the bat to avoid slipping further behind.
