My Dream Is To Play T20 World Cup: Yashasvi Jaiswal
Jaiswal last played a T20I for India back in July 2024
Not often in history, for any team, has a batter of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s calibre sat out games, but India’s strength in depth in T20s is such that the 23-year-old is not a part of the country’s T20I set-up despite boasting an outstanding record in the shortest format.
Jaiswal averages 33 and strikes at over 150 in T20s overall, but the presence of the likes of Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill and Sanju Samson has meant that the 23-year-old has not played a T20 International for the country in over 15 months.
His T20I record, in fact, is even better than his overall T20 record - 36 avg, 164 SR, 1 century - but, as things stand, the left-hander is not in the fray when it comes to the shortest format, with Gill and Abhishek the management’s favoured opening pair.
However, in a recent chat, Jaiswal did not shy away from mentioning that it’s a dream of his to represent India in the T20 World Cup.
“My dream is to play T20 World Cup but I try to focus on my game and will wait for my time,” Jaiswal said during ‘Agenda Aaj Tak’ conclave, reported Indian Express.
Last week, Jaiswal notched up his maiden ODI hundred in just his fourth ODI, and there he got the privilege of not only batting with both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, but also sharing 100-run partnerships with both of them.
He spoke about the pair’s influence, and explained how the experience brought by the two veterans have proven to be invaluable for youngsters such as himself.
“When they (RoKo) are there, it is great for us as they discuss the game. They share their experiences. The intensity with which they have played and won games for India, they are like inspiration. They tell us about the mistakes they made in their younger days and how we can avoid making those mistakes,” Jaiswal said.
“When they aren’t there, we all miss them. If they are there, we all feel relaxed. When I was playing the third ODI, Rohit bhai told me to relax and remain calm and take time as he would take risks. How many people will do that? Similarly Virat paaji, gave me small targets and told me that we will have to win it ourselves.”
