Namibia qualify for their third T20 World Cup in a row

The Eagles have won all five matches in the African Qualifiers so far to book their place for the marquee event scheduled for June 2024

Namibia book their place in the T20 World Cup following their fifth win on the bounce in the T20 World Cup Africa Region Qualifier 2023. They beat Tanzania by 58 runs in Windhoek on Tuesday (November 28) to assure themselves of a place in the mega event, set to be played in the US and West Indies in June 2024. This will be Namibia's third T20 World Cup in a row following their appearances in 2021 in the UAE and 2022 in Australia.

Namibia made it to the Super 12s in 2021, while in 2022 did not make it through to the next round, despite beating Sri Lanka in the first game.

Opening batter Nikolaas Davin has been the pick of the batters for the Eagles, slamming 236 runs at a strike-rate of 147.50, which includes an 89 against Zimbabwe in the first game, followed by 80 against Rwanda. While skipper Gerhard Erasmus has not had the best of times with the bat, he has made up for it with his displays with the ball with seven wickets at 10.43 - the best for his side so far.

Namibia take on Nigeria in their final game of the tournament at the Wanderers Cricket Ground, Windhoek on Thursday (November 30).

Uganda, who shocked Zimbabwe, sit second with six points, while Kenya sit one spot behind them with six points as well. Zimbabwe, who were expected to be one of the teams to qualify from here will have their task cut out as they have just four points from as many matches.

They not just have to beat Nigeria and Kenya in their remaining two games but will also have to hope for either Uganda or Kenya to lose both their matches. If either side wins both their games, the Sikandar Raza-led side will miss out on a berth.

The mega event next year will feature as many as 20 teams. 19 teams have been finalised, the last spot will be determined in the next two days.
