Naqvi Still Not Ready To Deliver Asia Cup Trophy, Keeps Hard Condition For BCCI

The Trophy is still in the ACC headquarters in Dubai

Team India became the champions of the Asia Cup 2025 by defeating Pakistan in the final; however, the coveted trophy has still not been handed over to them, with the controversy escalating further. As per the latest development, Mohsin Naqvi, who serves as both the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has refused to deliver the trophy to India while responding to an email sent by the BCCI regarding this.

According to multiple reports, Naqvi has insisted on hard conditions for the handover, which include the BCCI holding a ceremony in the first week of November with fanfare where the trophy will be handed over in the presence of a player.

The controversy around the trophy began at the post‑match ceremony after India’s victory on September 28, 2025, in Dubai, where the Indian players refused to accept the trophy and winners’ medals from Naqvi. Subsequently, when the matter was raised by the BCCI during a meeting of the ACC, Naqvi maintained he had done nothing wrong and said, “As ACC President, I was ready to hand over the trophy that very day, and I am still ready now. If they truly want it, they are welcome to come to the ACC office and collect it from me.”

From the Indian side, the corresponding position was that while they were willing to receive the trophy from a neutral dignitary (Khalid Al Zarooni, vice‑chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board) rather than Naqvi personally, this did not materialise because Naqvi did not allow the change. This incident has continued to deepen the existing tensions between the two cricketing neighbours and raised questions about sportsmanship. India’s clean sweep over Pakistan in this tournament and their record‑extending ninth Asia Cup title have been overshadowed by this off‑field drama.

As it stands, the trophy remains un‑handed to India, and it's there in the ACC office in Dubai. The BCCI has already signalled that it will escalate the matter to the International Cricket Council in its upcoming meeting.
