Nasser Hussain Worried About RCB Star: ‘He’s Lost The Rhythm Of Batting’

He's in the midst of a horror run with the bat

The home summer of 2025 has not gone according to expectations for England youngster Jacob Bethell. He was expected to start the India series at No.3, but after spending four Tests running drinks, he endured a horror outing in the decisive fifth game at The Oval, managing scores of 6 & 5.

And now, in the ongoing Hundred 2025, he’s registered scores of 5, 1 & 8 for Birmingham Phoenix, looking like a man down on form and confidence.

There are white-ball assignments coming up for England in the forthcoming weeks, but former England skipper Nasser Hussain believes Bethell should instead focus on playing County Championship games for Warwickshire in order to be ready for The Ashes. Bethell, according to Hussain, looks like someone who has ‘lost the rhythm of batting’.

"If I was him, I would probably be looking to play County Championship cricket for Warwickshire at the end of the season, just to get in the rhythm,” Hussain said on Sky Sports.

"And I know there's a T20 World Cup coming up and the white ball stuff is hugely important. But he seems to have lost the rhythm of batting.

"He hasn't got a professional hundred yet. Go and get a professional hundred. I think Warwickshire play Surrey as well. That will be a real good opportunity against a good bowling attack.

"So that's my personal thinking. Rob Key, selectors, they often get criticised for not focusing on the white-ball stuff. They may say, 'right, we've got a World Cup, you need to play more white ball stuff.' It will be interesting to see."

Bethell has batted 10 times since June but has failed to cross the 25-run mark even once during this period. His scores during this period read 8, 1, 5, 6, 5, 7, 13, 6, 20, 12.
