Naveen-ul-Haq’s relation with the Afghanistan national team has been a love-hate relationship. While the right-arm seamer wasn’t included in the squad for the 2023 Asia Cup, he was a late inclusion in the World Cup squad for Afghanistan.
The 24-year-old, who has played seven ODIs for the national, has announced that he will retire from the 50-over format following the conclusion of the upcoming World Cup in India. In the aftermath of his non-selection in the Asia Cup, the right-arm seamer put up a cryptic post targeting the national board. In the seven ODIs that he has played, the 24-year-old averages 25.4, with 14 wickets, including a best figure of 4/42.
“It has been an absolute honour to represent my country would like to announce my retirement from ODI format at end of this World Cup,” Naveen announced his decision to retire from ODIs on his Instagram.
…and will continue to wear this blue jersey in T20 cricket for my country it hasn’t been an easy decision to make but to prolong my playing career had to take this tough decision would like to thank Afghanistan Cricket Board and all my fans for their support and unwavering love,” he added.
