Twice in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been asked to chase more than 180, and on both occasions, their skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad failed with the bat.
Chasing a target of 197 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Chepauk, Gaikwad was dismissed for a four-ball duck.
Then, against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the same venue on April 5 (Saturday), CSK were set a target of 184, and the right-hander from Maharashtra once again failed to make an impact.
Gaikwad scored 5 before hitting a short delivery from Mitchell Starc straight to Jake Fraser-McGurk at deep backward square leg.
In the other two encounters this season, Gaikwad scored 53 against Mumbai Indians (MI) and 63 against Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Amongst top-six batters while chasing 180+ targets in IPL, Gaikwad has the fourth-worst batting average (14.70) after Sunil Narine (10), Sam Curran (14.38) and Deepak Hooda (14.67).
In 10 innings while chasing 180 plus, Gaikwad has scored only 147 runs at an average of 14.7 and a strike rate of 124.
