Despite the two teams' agreement on the trade deal, there has been a new complication on November 11 (Tuesday) that now affects the deal from going through. The complication, according to Cricbuzz, is the involvement of the third player – Sam Curran – who can’t be registered because of the Rajasthan Royals’ filled overseas quota.
According to Indian Premier League (IPL) rules, a franchise can only have eight overseas players, and since RR already has eight, they can’t register Curran as part of the trade deal. Unless the Royals announce their retentions earlier than the deadline date, the deal that could see Ravindra Jadeja and Curran come to RR and Sanju Samson to CSK can’t be registered.
However, suppose the deal involves only two players (Jadeja and Samson), there won’t be any complications as the Royals still have more than enough space on their roster to register the Indian all-rounder. It is the biggest reason why the deal has been delayed, with it now only set to materialise after November 15 (Saturday) – the deadline day for retentions.
Most likely, with the inclusion of Jadeja in their setup, the 2008 IPL champions will release the Sri Lankan duo of Maheesh Theekshana (INR 4.4 crore) and Wanindu Hasaranga (INR 5.25 crore). Jadeja not only adds to their batting depth but also becomes the first-choice spinner in the Royals’ setup.
