Following their win in the first Test over India in Bengaluru, New Zealand have jumped to fourth spot in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) table with a PCT (Percentage of points won) of 44.44%. They have surpassed England in the standings, who have a PCT of 43.06%. They still have five more matches to go in this WTC cycle - two against India (away)and three against England (home) - and have an outside chance of making it to the final.

If they win all their remaining five Tests, they will reach a PCT of 64.29%, keeping them in the hunt for a place in the WTC final at Lord's next year. However, even a single loss from here on could see them out of contention. Despite this loss, India are on top of the WTC standings with a PCT of 68.06%. However, they are still in pole position to make it to their third straight WTC final.
Australia are currently in second place with a PCT of 62.50%. They won the last edition of the WTC and have seven more Tests in this cycle, and still have it in their hands as far as making back-to-back finals is concerned.
India still have two Tests against New Zealand and five more against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, starting November 22. They succumbed to their first defeat against New Zealand at home in 36 years, which has put a slight dent, but not one big enough for them to finish outside the top two.
They will hope to get their campaign back on track when they face the Kiwis in the second Test in Pune, starting October 24.
