Former New Zealand all-rounder Sarah Tsukigawa was named the women’s selector on September 6 (Friday). The all-rounder’s first big assignment would be naming the squad for both the white-ball series against Australia and the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Middle East.
The now 42-year-old made her Whiteferns debut in 2006. Her career lasted over five years, with her last appearance in 2011 against Australia. New Zealand will likely announce their squad for the upcoming showpiece event on September 10 (Tuesday).
Tsukigawa’s task will be to select the senior-level players and work closely with those below that level in the pathway system. She will work alongside head coach Ben Sawyer.
"I've always wanted to get back involved in women's cricket and give back to the game that has given me so much," Tsukigawa said after she was appointed the selector.
"Clear communication is an important part of selection, and I feel I can bring that along with my experience as a player. I've got a lot of belief in this current group of White Ferns and the pathway that is being developed to produce future White Ferns,” she added.
One of her biggest tasks would be to identify Sophie Devine's successor. The all-rounder announced that the T20 World Cup would be her last assignment as captain. New Zealand’s next white-ball series is against Australia, with the first T20I scheduled on September 19.
